I got a call from Joey one afternoon and he mentioned he was referred to me by another trainer, Arby. Arby doesn’t see clients anymore since he decided to concentrate more on his career in the medical field. Joey wanted a “jumpstart” with his fitness and I could hear so much enthusiasm in his voice and I sensed his dire need to get back on track.

Do you remember that kid in your grade school class who always raised his/her hand because he/she always needed to clarify something and made sure everything he/she did was right ??? Yes, Joey reminds me of that smart kid, Loisa, in school. “ Precision” to Joey isn’t just meeting the standards and what’s asked of him…going above and beyond what is expected of him is what he considers perfection. He reports his caloric intake and physical activity on the days I don’t train him which helps me to customize his workouts during his sessions. He loves Dim Sum ( Chinese finger foods such as dumplings and steamed buns ) and he hasn’t had them since he started with me per my instruction to lay off them while we’re trying to achieve his goal. Don’t get me wrong, Dim Sum isn’t that bad especially when consumed in moderation. But if you have a goal to lose 10,20,30 or 40 pounds of excess fat, weaning yourself off of  the foods that would slow down the progress is imperative. Today, after a short period of 3 months, Joey can see and enjoy the amazing results of his dedication and hard work. I’m very proud of this guy.

He wanted something so bad and he went for it….that is extremely rewarding and inspiring to me.  Here’s to Joey  and to that smart kid in grade school who believed she could do anything, Dr. Loisa Sarmiento.

LETTER FROM JOEY:

It was time for a change.  I was always considered to be the guy in shape, after 15 years in the military and sporting 20 inch biceps I was rarely questioned about my own fitness.  My body was always one to show large muscle gains quickly.  However, as I was getting older I was finding that my legs, arms, and chest would have tremendous gains with my weight training, but the “love handles” I had were becoming more untouchable without the proper cardio and core exercises I needed.  After completing my Bachelor’s degree I realized that sacrificing my workouts for a better GPA left me with a larger waist size and pants that didn’t fit.  Change and Dedication were necessary at this point.

Here is where Moni came into my life, he came highly recommended by a fellow personal trainer. One of my requests was that he be at least close to my age.  I didn’t want a 23 year old with little experience or poor customer service.  I wanted a trainer that practiced what they preached and understood the physical and  mental challenges a man my age would have when it came to losing weight, and Moni was just that!  A true professional!

I have always been a disciplined guy but I was a bit fed up with working on my “self image project” myself I needed a bit of a push and fresh ideas.  Moni not only understood what I was going through while I was attempting to re-sculpture my body, he talked me through many of my workouts to keep me motivated when I thought I could not make it through the last count.

Within less than 3 months, 2 sessions a week I ended up losing over 19 lbs.  With Moni’s help, he allowed me to concentrate more on my diet and cardio.  The workouts prescribed to me were not easy.  There were many I had not done in years!  Each time Moni said they would get easier, you know what?  They didn’t, but only because Moni constantly changed the workouts so he could introduce me to different techniques to trick my body so it would not get too use to the same old routines, (a habit I use to fall into many times in the past).

I felt the workouts were a bit harder for me because I was use to working out at <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 />5 am in the morning and getting the workout over with first thing in the morning and then going to work, but instead I would work a full day at my job then go and see Moni for my workouts. He was always on time.  There were many days I was just too exhausted to go, but I knew I would feel much better when the workout was complete, not to mention, the results were impressive.  I was rather proud of myself for meeting my goals that day.

I know that many people go to a trainer and expect the trainer to magically create a transformation, but I am a true believer that you only get in return what you are willing to put in.  Investing my time and effort with Moni was time well spent.  I highly recommend his services.

“Moni, you’re a very dynamic individual and I am proud to call you my trainer”!
